Exploring Safety Performance for Road Construction Projects in Gaza Strip Contracting Companies

Abstract
Road construction projects are a complex work situation which faces multiple injury risks under conditions that may change without warning. That is why it becomes necessary to exploring safety performance for road construction projects, especially in Gaza Strip contracting companies. This paper aims to identify the factors that affect safety performance in road projects, and suggest practices to improve safety performance to reduce accidents and injuries rates in road construction projects in Gaza Strip. Data was gathered using a questionnaire that was distributed among contracting companies that working on road construction in Gaza Strip. A total number of completed and received questionnaires are 80; the rate of response is 80%. The result confirms that the majority of contracting companies don’t consider the safety as a priority in sites. The study also discovers that field of the road construction suffers from absence of safety culture and workers on road construction suffer from lack of training and expertise
